Christine Field has lived in West Hoathly since her marriage to Colin in 1972. Here they have raised their family and taken a full and active part in community life. I am very proud that my 2 sons now work in the family business, in Burgess Hill, with Colin and myself.

Christine says "The opportunity to stand for election to the County Council is a very exciting one. A wealth of experience in other forms of local government has given me a passionate belief in the difference that it can make to the quality of life of residents and the business community.

Over 20 years as a Councillor, I chaired all of the major committees of Mid Sussex District Council (MSDC), was Leader of the Council for 5 years and its Chairman through the fascinating 2 years spanning the Millennium celebrations.

As MSDC’s representative at the Regional Assembly, I learned much about the wider world of local government, went on to chair the Regional Planning Committee and was appointed to the Environment Board of the Local Government Association, so also have experience of working, and representing local interests, at regional and national levels.

Originally trained as a Medical Social Worker, I have always had a deep commitment to the Health Service and was Chairman of the Mid Sussex NHS Trust (Princess Royal Hospital) from its creation in 1992 until the merger with Brighton in 2002.

Apart from my part-time commitment to the family business, I am a Parish Councillor and enjoy the pleasures of living in this beautiful county, as well as maintaining my family links with the Isle of Wight. My family play a huge part in my life and I am relishing a new role as Grandmother.''

Bill Acraman lived in Sussex since 1969 and in Copthorne for 38 years and has been a County Councillor since 1997. He is Chairman of the Rights of Way Committee, dealing with footpaths and bridle ways.

Bill says "I am a past Chairman of WSCC Conservative Group. I now act as Policy Advisor on Rural Strategy & the Environment and Libraries. Formally a Surrey County Councillor, parish councillor and chairman of his village residents association. I represent the county on Chichester Harbour Board, and both the South Downs AONB and High Weald management bodies. I am the county representative on GATCOM, the Gatwick Consultation Committee, the liasion body with the operators of Gatwick Airport.

Brought up in London, I have a Maths degree from Balliol College, Oxford University. My career was in atomic physics, operations research and finance, mostly in the bread and scaffolding industries. I worked in the USA for three years during the Vietnam war in the troubled 60's. I has three adult children and 4 grandchildren. enjoying bridge and, in earlier years, walking and sailing.''

Pete has lived in Sussex for 30 years and has been County Councillor since 2007. Pete is a leading campaigner for road safety and is also Chairman of Ansty & Staplefield Parish Council who have improved services whilst freezing council tax for the past four years. He has a B. Sc. in Chemistry and has spent his working life in sales and marketing, having worked for Toshiba and Ericsson amongst others.

The Chairman of Staplefield Cricket Club, where he has played since 1985, he is a great believer in promoting sports for all ages particularly for the young and wants to ensure the protection of rural sports facilities for the use of all members of the community.

Liz Bennett was born in the 1970’s and has always lived in East Grinstead. She is married to Mark with two delightful daughters who both attend Primary School in East Grinstead. Liz currently serves as a Town and District Councillor.

Liz says "I have always felt passionately about the sense of community spirit that brings people together. As chairman of the Stone Quarry Local Action Team and with the help of local residents and members, we have been able to contribute and help the local area and improve the quality of life for residents.

Apart from being a Councillor I also enjoy volunteering and have experience in working for both the hospital and local radio station and prison visiting as a member of Prison Fellowship. I am a member of Turners Hill Free Church and have an interest in young people and education as well as health issues.

I have had a career in teaching and training and my interests have always been singing, for church bands and charity fundraising.''

Lee Quinn was elected as town councillor in the East Grinstead by elections in July 2008. He serves on the planning and public services committees. He has lived in Sussex for most of his life.

Lee says "I grew up in Brighton with his grandparents and was educated there. My career was retail, which later meant that I lived in a number of locations away from the coast, including Haywards Heath, Crawley, Tonbridge and East Grinstead. For 10 years, I lived and worked in London and Orpington. Later I studied psychology and business with the Open University. Eventually I came back to Sussex and have been living in East Grinstead since 1999. I am married with two young children who go to school locally.

I established my own business in 1994, specialising in business development. I am a devoted husband and proud dad doing my fair share of school runs and ferrying to and from after school clubs. I have assisted the community with the Scout Association and as an outdoor activity instructor for the Guide Association. I am also a FA football coach. In February 2006, I set out to develop local communication and became the key catalyst in setting up Meridian FM community radio with a group of local people. I have been the station’s chairman since its launch.

A businessman and fundraiser, I assisted with the opening of the town museum in 2006. In 2007, I secured East Grinstead as the first town in the UK to have its own Monopoly board game. I am a member of the United Reformed Church and Member of the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and a committee member of East Grinstead Town Football Club. My hobbies include football, reading, walking and music.''

"Elected in 2005, I am the Cabinet Member for Education and Schools, having been Chairman of 6 LAs Joint Health Scrutiny that comprehensively referred to the Secretary of State for reconsideration the NHS Fit for the Future proposals. I aim to visit all 300 schools and Governing Bodies to ensure their progress towards places of learning that all youngsters, parents and guardians can regard as outstanding.

I am enjoying my fourth ‘career’, serving the community as a County Councillor, as a non executive director of a national mutual, as well as running my own business planning consultancy- “A safe pair of hands Limited”. After school at Brighton College,I attended University atf St. Edmund Hall Oxford and then became an Army Officer in the Royal Tank Regiment,seeing active service in Borneo. I used to live in France where I was a wine merchant for 5 years, I then returned to West Sussex, with my three daughters attending Warden Park school. My third ‘career’ in ICT was with BT until 2004. I am actively involved in local activities, including Church as Deanery Lay Chairman and participating in all nine Parish Council meetings. I have 3 pleasures- active membership of Harlequins FC and RL, an addiction to non-proficient golf and gardening.

I was recruited into the Hurstpierpoint Conservatives branch committee and served in various roles including chairman. I am a Vice Pesident of Arundel & South Downs Constituency Association."
