He is also Chairman of the County Local Committee which consists of the nine Worthing County Councillors who meet regularly in public to discuss matters of local interest and to make decisions on local matters. He was elected to Worthing Borough Council in May 1998 representing Heene Ward and is Chairman of the Development Control Committee. He has lived in Worthing for the past 21 years and is retired. Now retired, John is married to Brenda and they have two grown-up children. John first became interested in politics when at the age of 11 when he joined the Young Britons (they were the young, young Conservatives) and at the age of 23 he became the youngest Borough Councillor at that time to be elected to Ilford Borough Council where he served for 8 years. |

Nicky was born in Somerset and grew up in Barnstaple, North Devon. After leaving university she moved to Shoreham and then Guildford in Surrey where she worked in Financial Services. She then took a career break to have a family. She has Matthew, who is currently studying law at Surrey University and Luke who works for Hampshire police. On her return to work, 10 years ago, she decided to make a career change and so began working in the Charity/Voluntary sector, as she wanted to work in an environment that endeavoured to help make a difference to peoples lives. She has since then managed various projects, all helping older and disabled people access services they may otherwise have struggled to obtain. 7 years ago she met a local Worthing man, whom she eventually married. He introduced her to local politics as a different way in which she could help people. She would like to see a more pro-active approach by the police towards vandalism and anti social behaviour. |

Clem StevensCouncillor for Cissbury10 Whylands Crescent, Worthing, BN13 3HQ Phone: 01903 265614 |

Clem Stevens has been a County Councillor since 1997. He is married with a grown up daughter and two grandchildren. I was formerly a Sales Director with a specialist machine tool company. I have a wide knowledge of the finance industry which has served me well in the various committees on which I have served since joining the County Council in 1997, particularly on the Pensions Panel. Formerly the Chairman of the Policy and Resources Scrutiny committee, I currently Chair the Public Protection Scrutiny committee and serve as Policy Advisor to the Fire & Rescue Service. My current concerns are the lack of any effort on the part of the current government with regard to the necessary improvements required on the A27 and its particular need of a By-Pass in the Worthing area. A situation not helped by the consistently poor annual government grants given to West Sussex. My hobbies include military history and brass bands. |
