Mike Coleman has been a local resident for the last 23 years. Following a career with IBM UK, he ran an international communications based company in Chichester. Mike started his local government career as an Aldwick Parish Councillor, followed by 4 years as a District Councillor for Aldwick West. Mike was elected as a County Councillor for Nyetimber (Pagham and Aldwick West) in 2001 and was the Deputy Leader of the Council. His portfolio included Customer Service, Health, Libraries, Information Technology, Arts and Heritage, County Records Office, Community Engagement through the County Local Committees and the 2012 Olympics & Paralympics. Mike is a strong believer in local delivery and management of services for the community and is Chairman of the local Highways and Transport Committee.

He is a supporter of the West Sussex Army Benevolent Fund, the Sussex Air Ambulance Service and the Chichester Canal. His hobbies include information technology, flying as a private pilot and classic cars. He is a former Deputy Leader of the Council.

Christina Freeman has 27 years experience in the Head Office of a Multi-national company based in London specialising in Advertising, Personnel and Corporate Affairs.

She served on Yapton Parish Council for 2 years (1999 - 2001) and became Chairman of Arun District Association of Local Councils. She went on to become Chairman of the Downland Area Partnership Panel in 2001. Elected to the County Council in June 2001 and re-elected in May 2005, Christina is a member of Strategic Environment Services Select Committee and the County Planning Committee. She is a member of the Downland County Local Committee.

Appointments to outside bodies include, West Sussex Countryside Steering Trust, West Sussex Museums Council, Chichester Ship Canal Restoration Group (Chairman) and, she has also recently been Chairman of Littlehampton Harbour Board.

Christina's special interests are the Arts, Countryside and the Environment, Planning and Law and Order. Her hobbies include Music, the Theatre, Watercolour painting and Formula One Racing! Christina is currently a member of the West Sussex Army Benevolent Fund Committee and a supporter of the West Sussex Air Ambulance.

Elected to local Government in 1991 Graham Tyler has served on West Sussex County Council, Arun District Council and Rustington Parish Council. Graham is the former licensee of the Smugglers Roost.

Graham says "I retired from business aged 50 to become involved in public service. I now spend my time devoted to local projects such as the Rustington Museum. I have served as Chairman of Rustington Parish Council and Chairman of Arun District Council.

I am married to Diane; we have 3 daughters Emma, Katie and Lucy and 4 Grandchildren. The family have lived and worked in Rustington for 30 years. I have been actively involved with Round Table, Rotary and now work with adults with learning difficulties.

I was the instigator of the public meetings opposed to the travellers’ transit site and pledge to continue to be actively involved in all issues relating to future community issues. I continue to be involved with various voluntary works including Governor of Georgian Gardens School and trustee of Home link, the homeless charity.

West Sussex County Council delivers 80% of your local services and as a councillor I believe it is my duty to ensure your voice is heard at County Hall. We have enjoyed an excellent voice in the past through Peter Moor (retiring) and with your help to be elected on June 4th I will continue this tradition.

Deborah Urquhart

Deborah has lived in Clapham for fourteen years and is currently Chairman of Governors of Clapham and Patching C.E. Primary School. Married to Jim, she has a grown up stepson and a 10-year-old grandson.

Having qualified as an accountant at a London practice, Deborah pursued a financial career at a number of blue-chip organisations. She moved to Sussex to work for SEEBOARD Energy and was appointed the first female Finance Director in 2001.

Deborah has previous experience of being a councillor for a London Borough where she was Vice-Chairman of the Planning and Social Services Committees as well as a member of a number of other Committees including Schools. Deborah takes an active interest in local issues, particularly education and the protection of the countryside. She is currently Deputy Cabinet Member for the Environment and Economy with special responsibility for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Chairman of the Downland Area Committee, member of The Sussex Sea Fisheries Committee and the South Downs Joint Committee. In April 2008 she was appointed to the Cabinet with responsibility for the Environment & Economy portfolio.

Deborah's leisure interests include playing golf (badly), gardening, being taken for walks by the dog and reading.

Nigel says "I have lived in Sussex since 1980, having moved from just over the border in Hampshire. I relocated to Littlehampton in 1994 with my wife and three children, all of whom have been educated locally, initially at Arundel Church of England School and subsequently at the Littlehampton Community School.

I became a Young Conservative in the early 1970’s and have held a number of offices since that time, including Chairman of Littlehampton Conservative Association. I was also fortunate to be elected as an Arun District Councillor for the Central Ward of Littlehampton, when I particularly enjoyed serving on the Development Control Committee. I am currently the President of the St John Ambulance Division for Littlehampton and Chairman of Crystal Palace Housing Association. I am also a director of the charity Freshvisions.

My profession is that of a surveyor and I am a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, specialising in Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax within the South East. My hobbies include running in the West Sussex Fun Run League as a member of the Arunners, travelling, the theatre and fine art.''

Sussex born and bred, Peter has lived in Ferring since 1979. His two children attended the local schools and in Peter's words "He is utterly committed to West Sussex". Peter has served his local community in the past in varying roles - Community Advisor for Civil Defence, Emergency Planning Co-ordinator, Assistant Scout Leader to name a few.

Peter was elected to West Sussex County Council in 2005 and served on the Strategic Planning and Public Protection Select Committee, as well as being appointed the Older Peoples Champion for West Sussex a role that he still maintains after being selected to serve as the Cabinet member for Public Protection. In 1997 he was elected to Ferring Parish Council and served as Chairman of a number of committees culminating in Chairmanship of the Parish Council in 2004 and is still a Parish Councillor and Chairman of the Finance and Resources Committee.

He is the Chairman of East Preston Neighbourhood Youth Club, Governor of Ferring CE Primary School, Governor of The Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Trustee of the Cobnor Activities Centre in Chichester Harbour and Chairman of the Joint Eastern Arun Area Committee. He previously worked as a Manager in the Lloyds of London Insurance industry and still maintains a role as Consultant for Insurance and Safety matters.

Peter says, "Being the Portfolio holder for Public Protection at West Sussex County Council is one of the most challenging yet rewarding roles I have undertaken. Being responsible for the Fire & Rescue Service, Coroners office, Registration Service, Gypsies and Travellers, Emergency Planning as well Community Safety is a role that certainly keeps you very busy." Peter's spare time is spent reading, hill walking or tinkering with one of his elderly motorcycles, which he even manages to ride occasionally.

George Blampied

George and his wife Marjorie have lived in Feltham since he retired in 2001 and moved from Staines. He worked in the freight business near Heathrow for 40 years as an Export Director. George represented Laleham on Spelthorne Borough Council for 12 years. He sat on a variety of committees covering Planning, Highways, Health and Housing. He served as Mayor of Spelthorne in 1996/7. These years gave George a great insight into local democracy and the provision of services, enabling him to help the community he represented.

He is a member of Felpham Parish Council and is on their Allotments and "site 6" committee, working to find a solution to the Site Six Housing proposals.

George and his wife are keen bowlers, both indoor and outdoor, and George is a voluntary helper and fundraiser for Bognor Rugby Club. His other interests are walking, gardening and playing with the grandchildren.

Derek Whittington

Educated at the High School for Boys in Chichester and at Goldsmiths' College, London University, Derek studied modern languages and enjoyed a career in export sales and marketing in the electronics industry, spending much time abroad. He moved to Barnham in 1987 and has been active in many local issues and organisations and is a Vice President of Eastergate Cricket Club. A keen walker and cyclist he enjoys having the natural beauty of the South Downs on his doorstep.

Derek joined Eastergate Parish Council in 1991 and served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman from 1997and has represented Eastergate and Barnham as an active member of the Joint Downland Area Committee since its inception.

He is County Cycling Champion, and Streetscene Champion. He is Vice Chairman of the Rights of Way Committee and Chairs two external bodies, the Lidsey Landfill Liaison and Arun Valley Rail Partnership Steering Committees and is a member of the Executive Committee of the West Sussex Association of Local Councils.

He served as a Member of the Children's and Young People's Services Select Committee for three years and was appointed to the Strategic and Environmental Services and the Hospitals Overview Select Committees in late 2007. Previously a member of the Select Committee Task Force investigating the provision of services to children with Special Educational Needs, he currently sits on Task Forces investigating Footway Standards and Library Services and on the Member Development Focus Group.

In April 2008 he was appointed Deputy to the Cabinet member for Strategic Planning and Transport and was promoted to the Cabinet in July 2008.
