Mark Dunn is a company director with experience of international management consultancy specialising in insurance and marketing. He has served on West Sussex County Council since 1997, and was elected as Chairman of West Sussex County Council in 2008. Previously he was Cabinet Member for Children and Young People including Education. He is also a member of Chichester District Council, the Regional Flood Defence and Environment Protection Advice Committee and the Sussex Downs Conservation Board. He was Chairman of the Sussex Police Authority, covering East & West Sussex as well as Brighton.


His special interests are green matters and energy conservation, human health and mortality trends and countryside matters. He is married with six children and 12 grandchildren and his hobbies are walking, woodland affairs and travel.

Michael says "I have been a member of the Conservative Party for over 30 years, and since retiring have become increasingly active in my local party's affairs. I am Deputy Chairman of Arundel and South Downs Constituency Association, and have been Bury Branch Chairman for 10 years. I am part of a political marriage, my wife being an ASDCA Officer, and Secretary and Treasurer of Bury Branch.

I spent my working life in the energy industry and was an Executive Director of London Electricity plc, Chairman of London Total Gas Ltd, Chairman of London Total Energy Ltd and Chairman of Thames Power plc, a 1,000 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power station. I retired aged 52 in 1997 following a US takeover.

My wife and I have two grown up children and have lived in Sutton for 10 years. I am Churchwarden at our local church, St John the Baptist. In recent years I have been involved with charitable work for the Sussex Minibus Association and the Children's Society - my wife being the local Chairman. As a governor of Herbert Shiner Intermediate School, I chaired the Property and Headmaster's Remuneration Committees. In the 1980's I was Deputy Chairman of Coldwaltham Parish Council. I am a Freeman of the City of London.

With a one and a half acre garden I am, by necessity as well as inclination, a keen gardener. My interest in sport, matches my passion for political and economic affairs.''

Pieter Montyn came to live and work in England from the Netherlands over 40 years ago, and was granted British nationality shortly thereafter. His career spans 37 years in the UK industry (British Aerospace/BAE Systems and GEC), in which he held senior export management positions at home and abroad. He is a Chartered Engineer and has a Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering. He retired in 2004. He has a long association with the Manhood Peninsula. Previously a widower, he is now married and has lived in Birdham for six years, where he has kept a boat for more than twenty years.

He was first elected to Chichester District Council for the West Wittering Ward in a by-election in 2006, and re-elected in 2007, with an increased majority over each of the other party candidates. He is an Executive Board Member and Portfolio Holder for the Environment. Responsibilities include matters relating to climate change, coastal defence and waste collection. He is a member of the Development Control Committee (South) and of the Corporate Governance and Audit Committee and is chairman of two environment related panels and a forum. He is a Deputy Member of the Chichester Harbour Conservancy, and represents CDC on the North Solent Shoreline Management Plan.

Louise says "I was elected to represent Chichester West in 2001. During my time on the Council I have served as a Policy Adviser and Chairman of a Select Committee. In 2005 I became portfolio holder for the Environment and Economic Strategy and in 2008 took over the Portfolio for Finance and Resources.

I believe in strong financial management to ensure that costs are kept to the minimum and that residents get good value for their Council Tax. Working to these principles has ensured the lowest Council Tax of 3.25%. For 2009 -2010

I have keen interest in environmental issues and wherever possible I champion the importance of understanding the impact of Climate Change to our lives and countryside as well as the need to adapt and help reduce the carbon footprint not only in the County Council but of the Community.

I have been a member of Chichester Harbour Conservancy for 8 years and am currently Chairman. I am also a Governor of Chichester College. I have 2 grown up children who were both educated locally in Chichester.

In my spare time I enjoy, walking my dogs, cycling, yoga, reading, theatre and opera. In 2007 I was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.''

Peter Jones is a retired company director. He had a successful management career in large British companies prior to starting his own business. He was able to retire early to follow his interests in local Government, the community and environmental affairs. He was elected to the County Council in 1997 and is also a member of Chichester District Council and West Itchenor Parish Council. He is married with a son and daughter.

Nola says "I am Chairman of the Children and Young Peoples' Services Select Committee and also serve on both the Adults' Services and Policy and Resources Select Committees . I have been a member of the Chichester Conservative association for many years and was Constituency Chairman twice. I was also Chairman of the Sussex Area Conservatives from 2004-2007 . I am on the Westminster Parliamentary Candidates List .

My 'other life' was in Women's Professional Tennis, where I was European Tour Operations manager for the Worldwide Women's pro tennis Tour for 18 years and a Prize Money Officer at Wimbledon for 16 years. My father, as Tournament Director and I together ran the Eastbourne Ladies pre-Wimbledon event for the Lawn Tennis Association for 23 years and the Indoor event in Brighton for 18 years.''

Chris says "Born in this part of Sussex, I attended the local Schools of Ebernoe, Northchapel & Midhurst finally going to Brinsbury Agricultural College as it was in 1959/60. I am a third generation Farmer, a mostly arable farm until the late 80s when I diversified half the farm into leisure activities with the onset of set a side. Now we have full 18 hole Golf Course, whilst keeping 200 acres of Arable land, which in the process of going Organic. As I followed my father and grandfather, I am hoping that my son Tim and grandson Oscar (Oscars great grandfather Maurice Allom was an English Test player before the last War) may follow me. My daughter Tessa is working with me on the Farm conversion programme.

My knowledge of local Government has been mainly through my wife Janet, who for the past 36 years has been a District and Parish Councillor.The time since my election in a bye-election has taught me a lot regarding the works of the County Council although obviously there is more to learn.

My outside interests are cricket at Ebernoe, windsurfing at Chichester Lakes and cycling on a regular basis. In 2005 I completed a solo ride from Petworth to our house in central Portugal, a total of 1050 miles in 11 days.

Mike Hall has recently retired. He was born in East Dean and has lived locally for most of his life.

Mike says "I am a Sussex man with a passion for promoting rural issues and protecting our natural environment. As an experienced councillor I have served on WSCC since 1998 as well as being a former member of Chichester District Council. I am the WSCC member on the LGA Rural commission and also the Rural Development programme for England. I sit on the South Downs Joint Committee and its planning committee, the Hedgerows, Trees and Woodlands working group. I am chairman of the Chichester South County Local Committee [CLC] and the Westhampnett Amenity site liaison group.

I also sit on the Health Overview and Scrutiny committee [HOSC] and the management committee of the Information Shop for Young People. I am a long serving governor at Boxgrove Primary School and recently retired from Boxgrove Parish Council after serving for 28 years, including two terms as chairman.

Margaret Whitehead has lived in Chichester for 18 years. Educated in Leicester she qualified in catering, working in the industry before switching careers to become Leicester’s first female stockbroker. On moving to Chichester she taught part time for eight years at her daughter’s school. She is a widow with grown up children. Her daughter is a Food Technologist and son a Civil Servant and Special Police Constable. She is currently Chairman of the Summersdale Residents Association, Governor of Parklands Primary School, Treasurer of the Chichester Conservatives Women’s Committee, a member of Chichester Society and on the committee of two charities, one of which is involved with mental health. Her hobbies are photography, sewing, gardening and walking my dog.

Margaret has extended her interest in Chichester South, attending Parish Council Meetings, Resident Association Meetings, the Peninsula Forum and gaining insights into issues which are likely to call for debate and decision taking.

She is standing for the County Council as she feels it is important that there are representatives like her who are committed to helping keep Chichester and its surrounding area free of the problems that beset other urban areas and positively assist residents to cope with problems and realise opportunities.
